Machine Design

How we are actuating and automating the machine we designed, as part of a group assignment.

9 May 2018 12:30:

This week’s assignment is to continue to work in group and actuate/automate the machine we (Ilias Bartolini, Marta Bocos, Óscar González and myself) have designed.

You can find all documentation about this stage of the project on this separate webpage here.

Though we all have participated in the ideation and design process of the “machine” itself, I was particularly focused on designing, modelling (in Fusion 360) and printing (with the RepRaps available at the lab) the 3D parts. Also participated in the overall documentation process and tried to learn as much as possible from my fellow group participants.

Here are some videos showing me modelling the parts (the first and second batch, as we realized the firts prototype would take to long to print) on Fusion 360:

And all models created can be found here
).

On this second week, we initially learned how to use a stepper motor and make it move as wished with an Arduino CNC shield. For this, Ilias’s job started the motors and made them move for the first time.

Later on, we all collaborated as follows:

Marta and Ilias to set up the motors and fit up the endstops in place. Óscar and Me to program the board and define the interaction with the endstops.

Here’s a page with our final results.
