Final Project: Shadow Stories

Concept

I'd like to create some sort of tool to inspire children and their families to create stories during a bedtime routine that incorporates shadow play and shadow puppetry. I think that this could promote an interest in storytelling as a way for families to connect while encouraging creativity through a simple twist on the bedtime story routine. The device would include some kind of light and laser-cut stationary and hand-held pieces. Other ideas: story cubes and other story starters, accompanying guide to storytelling, open source library of characters, ability to craft own characters/settings/soundtrack/display.

Research

My Pinterest board for this project includes links to traditions of storytelling and shadowpuppetry, shadow arts, marketed bedtime story projectors and nightlights, and visual inspiration.

Modeling 2D

For 2 dimensional modeling I used Inkscape and Rhino. I used use each tool to render a different final project design, but in hindsight think it would have been more helpful to make the same design using the variety of software tools in order to better see the differences between them. As a complete "newbie" I relied heavily on tutorials, youtube videos

Modeling 3D

...After becoming frusrated with FreeCad, I decided to use TinkerCad- the one tool already familiar to me before trying something new. While I was able to create a model with relative ease, I came to see that this tool doesn't allow for enough control and specificity to meet the needs of a more complex project.
