2d design

This week in class we learn about 2D model. A 2D geometric model is often adequate for certain flat objects, any shape that can be laid flat on a piece of paper or any mathematical plane is a 2D shape.

Corel Draw

Coral Draw is a drawing program for windows and mac.This is the program that I was familiar with. This was the program that we used to cut things in the laser cutter. I had never design anything myself,in any designing program. So, everything that I used to cut it was files from other people or combining pictures.

Free Cad

Free cad has two functions. In Free Cad you can do 2d drawings and 3d models. I had a hard time understanding the program. But since is a free software anyone can get access to it. So, eventually I will go deeper into it. Although, it looks very simmilar to Fusion 360.

Inkscape

Inkscape is a free and open-source vector graphics editor; it can be used to create or edit vector graphics such as illustrations, diagrams, line arts, charts, logos and complex paintings. Inkscape's primary vector graphics format is Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), however many other formats can be imported and exported. Lastly, this program is very similar to illustrator.

In this program you can affine transformations. For example move, rotate, scale, sketch, and configure. Also specific measurements can be apply to your picture or design. Transformations can snap to angles, grids, guidelines and nodes of other objects.

A few details about Styling objects in Inkscape.

Each object in Inkscape has several designs which determine its style. All of the designs can generally be set for any object:

Fill: Can be a solid color, a pattern, a linear or radial gradient, custom swatch, inherited from a parent object.
Stroke fill: Can have the same values as fill, but is applied to the object's stroke.
Stroke style: Width can be set by 9 different measurement (pixels, inches, meters, etc.)
Filters: The fill and stroke menu has an easy-to-use slider for Gaussian blur of each object; there are hundreds of categorized filter options under the SVG filters can be constructed using the >Filters menu.
Layers: Layers are to list, organize, and edit the objects in a document. By default, every new document contains one layer, and each object you create is listed under that layer.

Inkscape's primary format is Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG)

I choose to draw glasses because this is connected to my final project. My final project is going to be glasses with sensors attached to it. This glasses are going to be for blind people.

My 2D design

So I had no idea how to start my design. I decided that I'm going to make glasses and use this for my final project. And this is what I have so far. The shape my look easy but for an inkscape beginner it was so hard.

Then I explore fusion to create my 3d shape. Click on insert and I choose the svg file. I have a little bit of trouble uploading the file. I try dxf and it did not work, but I try svg and that's thats when it worked.

I extruded the body 4ml.

Then I made it into a body, this created into a 3d shape.
