Assignment 3: Vinyl Cut + Laser Cutting

First, I started with the vinyl cutter, designing something for my MacBook. I found it really cool and friendly the use of this machine, quite simple.

I use Adobe Illustrator for my design and considering the vinyl measures.

Then I saw the pattern cut.

After a while I started to see the results.

Then I initiated the other part of the process, cutting the vinyl stickers and put the transfer.

After that I applied to my MacBook and gently retire the vinyl I did not wanted.

Laser Cutting

First, I started sketching my design on my sketchbook. I develop two alternatives. One based on the three main geometric figures: square, circle and triangle. The other I want it to go further and skip the press fit thing and explore something else, more flexible (I baptized as the watch).

Then I used parametric design program Fusion 360 to design this stuff. Building one of the figures I started with the circle, introducing measures, extruding it, then with the circular pattern applied the number of substractions I wanted, in this case was five. For the other figures I used the same archive just to modify the substractions and measures.

After that I start to do the testing (press fit), first on the Trotec Laser Cutting Machine in ESAN FabLab, later on the UCAL FabLab wit our Trotec Speedy 300.

This where my tests on press fit.

The final result was this.
