Patents & Copyrights

There are multiple types of intellectual property but the two of the most familiar are patents and copyrights. As patents are usually related to inventions, it does not seem that it would be relevant to my project as I am not inventing anything new.
Copyrights are intellectual property protection for 'original works of authorship'.It grants exclusive ownership and use for the intellectual property of the creator. Some creators find the restrictions unnecessary and want to make their work sharable and open for others to use, yet still have their name tied to it.

Creative Commons

Creative Common licenses are a way to grant varying degrees of permission to copyrighted work. CC gives the original creator control and ownership in how they would like their work to be used while protecting those using their work from possible copyright violations, given that the user appropriately follows the licensing conditions set out by the author.

CC give audiences the ability to 'Share-copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format' and 'Adapt- remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially'. People are allowed these permissions as long as they uphold the given terms shared by all Common Creative Liceneses. The first is Attribution which states that you must give the proper credit as requested by the original creator, provide a link to the license and be transparent of any changes that were made. Also, you cannot apply legal terms or technological terms that prohibits others from doing anything within accordance of the license. There are 6 licensing types under Common creatives that can arranged with the following 4 stipulations

Attribution

All creative common licenses require attribution which allows others to copy, distribute, display, perform and remix your work as long as they properly attribute you as the original creator.

No Derivative Works

Others are only allows to use your work in its original form

Share Alike

This allows for derivative work but those who use it must license under the same conditions

Non- Commercial

Allows for derivatives of your work as long as it's not used for commercial purposes

Slow Glass Licensing

I will license my work under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommerical-ShareAlike (BY-NC-SA). As was in the fablab, it was very useful to be able to pull from a plethora of resources and ideas from past students as a way of learning. Creating derivatives and referencing peoples' designs have been an integral part of my learning process during fabacademy. It would make me really glad if people were actually interested in making slow glass themselves if they saw its utility in helping them be more present.

Business Model

I would first want to experiment with more design and materiality iterations as the aesthetic experience plays a significant role in the efficacy of the glass. I'm also interested in how people would find using it in their daily routine. I would give out a few sample to those who were stress and anxiety prone and get feedback on the usage of the glass. If the glass received a lot of positive feedback, I would think about distributing it in appropriate environments or communities that I thought it might be the most useful
