APPLICATIONS AND IMPLICATIONS

In this week, we have to answer a series of questions about our final project, where we can define the scope at the end of this stage, improve after this cycle, who is focused on the project, materials, costs and more important data.


Propose a final project that integrates the range of units covered, answering:


The project consists of designing and building a handle that is hergonomic, easy to adapt to a white cane for blind people. The handle programming will allow the blind person to understand if it deviates to the right or left of a route.Creating a device for blind people under this parameter helps blind people to travel alone without the need for a guide.


The scope of the project


What I want to achieve at this stage is to define the logic to be able to follow a street and if it deviates from this route, it is a very ambitious and complex project at the same time, normal GPS have a lag of 1 meter, this range is very large and the errors are obvious but I will try to find a solution. The handle can create routes and store them inside a card, with the help of 3 correctly located buttons the process is started and stopped.


What will it do?


The device allows the easy navigation of blind people when they travel from one point to another, as well as it allows to store routes that the user wishes to remember at some time.


Who did what in advance?


There are several applications for blind people that work like an app and that Google maps work for navigation. There are also other devices on the network called smartcane. In the FabAcademy there is a basic preliminary study, but no with the GPS and real time tracking.

Normally the blind do not use normal canes or a smart cane that already has a high cost, an option is to use app in the phone cone guide but this involves the cost of the phone, idea is to create this device and that suits the cane, technogia suits the needs of the user and not the contrary.


What will you design?


I'm going to design the electronic part that allows to connect the microcontroller with GPS, buttons and SD cards. I will design a cover in a way that is pleasant to the user and also a handle that will serve as the basis for the devices.


What materials and components will be used?


Chasqui as I want to call it consists of 2 main components: the interface and the handle, each one of them presents different materials.

Electronics:

* DC motor (cell phone vibrator)
* Passive components
* Batery 5v 1A

Structure:
* 3D printer design in flexible ABS
* Molded for support


Where will it come from?


Most of the materials we have in the fab inventory but especially the gps I want to use we did not have them so I bought one in an electronic store in my city, the DC motor is recycled from disused cell phones.


How much will it cost?


To know the cost of this equipment, you can use the fabinventory and make a list of the values of each of them. But personally I would like it not to exceed 200 dollars

This cost is only for materials to this we add the cost of 3D printing and the manufacture of the mold


What parts and systems will be made?


Location system, route interpretation system, route storage system and interface.


What processes will be used?


I will receive 3D printing, electronic design, electronic production and also the use of input and output device, embedded programming, molding and casting.


What tasks should be completed?


Initially, I tested the sensors and actuators.
Complete the design of the handle.
I still can not combine an interface with my device.
Develop a mobile application, but I still can not link it to the electronic system. I perform functional tests of certain components separately, I have to join the systems. Document the process during the development and the final result.
