Electronics design - Group assignment

The group project for this week was to use the test equipment in our lab to observe the operation of a microcontroller circuit board.

We decided to try both the multimeter and the oscilloscope. We have used the multimeter often to test whether our soldering is good enough so that all the components are connected the way they are supposed to.

When we are testing a circuit board with a multimeter we have it on the capacity setting so we can see whether the board shows the right capacity for each component. We check what the capacity for each component is and add up the capacity of the components that are inbetween the line we place the pins? on. If the number we see on the screen is the same as (or really close to) the outcome in our calculations the components are connected and soldered on correctly.

Villi from Fab Lab Hornafjörður had a lecture about the oscilloscope in his lab but we had never used an oscilloscope before and we have an older version than he does in our lab so we didn't really understand the lecture.

The weekend after the electronics design week we went to a bootcamp in Sauðarkrókur with people from fablabs in Vestmannaeyjar, Reykjavík, Sauðakrókur and Akureyri. In the bootcamp Bas from Fab Lab Reykjavík taught us how to use our oscilloscope and another one since ours is quite old and can't do all the things a newer ocsilloscopes can.
