Propose a Final Project


So after the very first class we were given a task to think and propose a final project.Considering some of the points.
Neil told about the history of the FabLabs and the vision culture and also about the upcoming schedule.

For choosing a final project I wanted to solve a day to day life problem of mine or the people around me, so I gave a much thoght about the various problems around me and came to a best of 2 ideas for the scope of my project during the Fablab.

Points to be Considered for the Project

  • What will It do?
  • Who will use it?
  • What are its implications?
  • Has anyone made it before?
  • What is the total cost of the project?

Idea 1 - THE SMART CART

Inspiration

Being from a business family background, now a days I feel people are becoming so lazy to move out from their houses to buy stuffs because of involvement of so much online shopping trend.

Why-

Because of lucrative offers on existing products.
Secondly maybe be nobody wants to stand in a long queue for billing process and all.

Who will use it-

It can be installed for any retail store wherever the masses wants to do a hassle free shopping.

What will it cost-

Exempting the cost of trolley i assume that all the packaging as well as electronics will account upto 3000 INR equivalent to 42 USD.

Future Scope-

A low cost device nicey packaged could be installed on the existing carts in the market can be a good involvement of tech in day to day life making their lves easier and hassle free.

The video is an inspiration to the project iam thinking to build something like this that will take the data of the product by just scanning the product's barcode by abarcode scanner maybe and a display attached to the cart will update the number of products Iam scanning
For the billing the customer just needs to push one button and ithe bill will be paid automatically and all the data will be received in real time at the billing counter.


Idea 2- The Smart Helmet

Problem Statement-

While riding a bike safety gear is a must. But now a days in India most of the people do not want to wear a helmet durig hot days because it becomes humid inside compromising the safety.

Solution-

A smart helmet designed such that it has an inbuilt cooling system as well as a headsup display(HUD) that will cast a sceen on the viser showing information like navigation and the speed.
A filter or an anti pollution mask will be installed at the front which will prevent dust and reduce the effect of pollution on the rider.

Inspiration-

This project is kind of personal to me as I too when I ride my bike I feel at times that there should be some device developed so that this problem can be cured, I too try not to wear at times due to too much hotnes inside and want to do something for the same.

Challenges-

What I feel the most Challenging part in this will be developing the whole helmet as well as the addition of navigation to the system
I'm not sure for now what process what process will be involved in making the whole helmet as per my imagination of the design and also integrating the various parts in it will be goin to be exciting because maybe I will be learning a whole new thing for the same and it will be agood learning asset to me.

Idea 3- MIDI Controller

Inspiration-

I love to listen music of all kinds especially the Trap and EDM, making my Personal customised MIDI controller will come like a handy tool which I acn use to tweak with music creating some new patches and layers of sounds.

Challenges

Although I've watched some of the videos of DIY MIDI using arduino and stuffs but having a nice clear idea of how it works is still not known I have to dive in it more if I take up the project. It will be fun making such things.

Idea 4- Extended Version of FABLAB BOOMBOX

Inspiration-

While going through some of the previous years project developed in Fablab I came across this mind Blowing work by Matt Keeter.

Why?

I basically have nack for music and developing a speaker of a good audio quality will be a good project for me and also
After vising the BoomBox page I would someking of make an extension to this existing project.

Modifications

  • Will develop new amplifier Board
  • Make it bluetooth controlled
  • Add a intuitive LED Matrix controlled by the audio output of speakers.

Challenges

  • Have to Design a new amplifier board without compromizing the quality of sound
  • Using Networks to make it bluetooth enabled
  • Controlling the sound sensors and map the pattern using the output of speakers
