Wael Khalil-Berytech Fab Lab Guru
Nour Arabi holds a Master’s degree of fine arts in furniture design from Buckinghamshire New University in the United Kingdom (2014), and a BFA in interior architecture and design from ALBA, University of Balamand (2012). Her alter ego is furniture and mechanisms; Besides being an interior architect and a furniture designer, Nour is also a maker who has gained a metalworking certificate during her stay in the UK along with carpenters’ TOT and Kaizen 5S training certificates from UNIDO in Lebanon. She believes in spreading the culture of making at her hometown, where she started teaching at Al-Manar University of Tripoli (now called City University) since 2015, delivering different courses in which she blends between the theory and practice through hands on exercises and applications. Nour is also the founder of Namuzaj, an art and design practice startup, under which she has worked on several projects while crossing the different art and design disciplines from painting to interior architecture, furniture, lighting, stage, and product design for different clients and startups in Tripoli and Beirut. She has exhibited her work at Herman Miller showroom (2015, London), May Design Series (2015, Excel, London), Project Lebanon (2017, Biel, Lebanon) and Art of Living Exhibition (2017, Forum de Beyrouth, Lebanon). In parallel, and due to her PR skills and volunteering work with local and international NGOs, Nour has been assigned as the North Chapter Coordinator of the Lebanese League for Women in Business LLWB during 2017, an NGO that brings together professional women and provides them with a platform to share experiences, develop competencies, establish networks and exchange expertise. She has recently joined ARCHIDES team at Azm University as a part time lecturer, delivering a course on furniture design and manufacturing and through which she is trying to fill the existing gap between students and the furniture industry due to the absence of this major in Lebanon. She is currently finalizing the interior of a coworking space in Tripoli, under Namuzaj, while engaging the community into the making of the space by teaching some woodworking and metalworking skills. Nour is also working on some fashion items to be launched soon, and collaborating with different designers on various design projects. They call her crazy, but she likes it and she will never stop to express herself whether through Namuzaj or through teaching, being always eager to learn and experiment with different materials, techniques and methodologies.
