About Me

Hello, I am Samiul Hoque.

I am a maker from Bangladesh and I sure do love making beautiful, sometimes useless, things. I have been hopping around professions for about 7 years since I dropped out of college.

I have worked as an embedded systems engineer for a while so I know a bit of electronics. I try to write instructables on random topics in electronics when I get the time for it. Here's some of my work.

I also worked at an advertisement firm for a bit and picked up some content making skills from there. While working there I launched a High Altitude Balloon as an advertisement campaign. Details can be found here.

Recently I have been working around the local wood industry and have been learning up some woodworking. Here are some of my woodworking projects.

My last project before coming to Ahmedabad for my Fab Academy degree was a startup to set up community internet at dense Slums in Bangladesh. Here is the project page for that.

Thanks to a World Bank grant, we now have 10 Fab Labs in Dhaka based at different Universities. I worked at such a lab for about two years and none of these labs are currently offering the Fab Academy degree. These labs are focused specifically to cater to students at their respective universities. Due to various beaurocratic issues, none of them are open working environments for the local industries or the maker community.

I hope to set up my own Fab Lab in Dhaka someday; focusing on the local industries and the maker culture around it. Even if I can't do that, I'd like a career around making random things.
