Assignment

Design and produce something with a digital fabrication process (incorporating computer-aided design and manufacturing) not covered in another assignment, documenting the requirements that your assignment meets, and including everything necessary to reproduce it. Possibilities include (but are not limited to) composites, textiles, biotechnology, robotics, folding, and cooking.

What I made this Week

Plan for the Week

My plan for the week was to make a multi layered PCB using vinyl cut copper. But on my regional review I was instructed to do something else as vinyl cutting single layered PCBs were already covered in our Computer Aided Cutting week. I'm adding what photos I have of the week here anyway since I started working on this a few weeks prior to wildcard week.

Trying to Create layers for 4x4 LED matrix using Vinyl Cutter

Vinyl Cutting Single Layers of the LED matrix, (common annode)
Making some more
Soldering One side first for 1206 components
Soldering the 1206 LEDs
Trying to Dissolve the Glue in Alcohol
And it worked after leaving it for a night
Single layer of the LED cube
Single Layer of the LED cube
Soldering the Layers on top of eachother
Soldering the Layers on top of eachother
And for the Base I wanted to create a 3 layered Copper PCB using a regular one sided PCB, one acryllic PCB with two layers made with the vinyl cutter.

Naturally I was quite frustrated with working for about 2 weeks on this to know that this wouldn't cut it for evaluation..
And I only had one day left to come up with something for wildcard week.

Lesson learnt, just stick to the evaluation book.

The Fab Cheese Sandwich

So the next day, I decided to make my breakfast in the lab. I bought a packed of bread and cheese and started testing out laser cutter parameters on a slice of cheese. This time, I first got it approved by my regional instructor before trying anything further by sending him this photo

yay! And he approved this is wild enough!

Making a Laser Test Template for the material "Cheese"

I quickly made a test template to test different laser parameters on Cheese in Fusion 360.

Then I went to the Laser Cutter to test out various power and speed Settings. To know more on how to use the laser cutter, have a look at my Computer Aided Cutting Assignment.

After alot of testing, (for science) I came up with this test template for anyone who would like to make his cheese sandwich at the lab.

I tasted the Cheese on the burnt part and the raw parts and found that it tasted best on power (10,10) and Speed 100
