About me

Hi! I am Alexander Demers, PhD. I am the STEAM Innovation Hub Manager at Madison Park Technical Vocation High School in Roxbury, Massachusetts

My background

I went to school at Worcester Polyechnic Institute (Worcester, MA) for my BS in chemical Engineering. I got my PhD at the University of Maine (Orono, ME), also in chemical engineering. There, I developed a process to make carbon nanofibers from lignin, a waste product of the pulping process in the paper industry.

I currently live in Roxbury, MA with my wife and our 2 dogs, Pythagoruff and Schrodingrrrr. They are cute and fluffy.

Previous work

I’m not a paragraph, I’m a person!

Previous work I have done is to develop a process to create carbon nanofibers at the University of Maine. There, we developed the process, mathematically modeled it, and created the instruments to perform it on. In the process, I got to use a lot of liquid nitrogen, which was pretty…cool.

Currently, I work at Madison Park Technical Vocational High School in Roxbury, Massachusetts where I serve as the Fab Lab Manager. There, I work with the various academic departments and vocational instructors to develop projects with everyone to expose as many students as possible to our Fab Lab.

In my spare time, I enjoy watching sports, playing basketball, eating cheese, my dogs, and trivia.
