CnC Router specs.

This week I used a CnC router as part of the weekly assingment.

The machine I used is a ShopBot PRSalpha series machine. The machine is a 3 axis router with a a standard board size of 4 by 8 feet (the standard size for a full sheet of material) and the capability to cut as deep as 20mm.

The machine has the following specifications:

  • A variable XY Move Speed, with a safe maximun whilst being apply to apply full cutting force of 254mm/s.

  • A Z Move Speed of up to 152mm/s whilst drilling or routing.

  • A XY Positioning Speed of up to 762mm/s.

  • A Z Positioning Speed of up to 381mm/s.

  • A Step Resolution quality as low as 0.0127mm.

  • A Positional Accuracy of +/- 0.076mm (note this assumes zero load and as such is only a theoretical value, the practical value will differ depending on settings, material and tool being used on any given situation).

  • A Linear Cutting Force of approximately 68Kg.

  • Finally, the X, Y and Z axis are operated using a Rack and Pinion system.
