Week#6

Electronics Design

This is the week of electonics designing, On the 27th fabruary Prof. Neil gave us online lecture about this week's related tasks. So the task of this week is to design a Echo hello world board.
Group Task
Digital multimeter.
A digital multimeter, DMM is a test instrument used to measure electrical values including voltage, current and resistance, although modern DMMs often make many more measurements.Digital multimeters combine the testing capabilities of single-task meters the voltmeter (for measuring volts), ammeter (amps) and ohmmeter (ohms). Often they include a number of additional specialized features or advanced options. The face of a digital multimeter typically includes four components:
  • Display: Where measurement readouts can be viewed.
  • Buttons: For selecting various functions; the options vary by model.
  • Dial (or rotary switch): For selecting primary measurement values (volts, amps, ohms).
  • Input jacks: Where test leads are inserted.

  • We have two digital multimeters in Lab.

    Continuity check and Diode testing.
To test the continuity and diode first turn the dial of multimeter on continuity testing function which is mentioned in above picture. Continuity test is done by checking circuit tracks with probes, if beep occurs it means that tracks are connected if there is no sound of beep or shown "1" on screen it means that tracks are not connected.

Here we are checking volts and amps from the supply.

    Individual Task
In this week I have to do is:
  • Redraw the Echo Hello World Board.
  • Add (at least) a button and LED (with current-limiting resistor).
  • Checking the design rules, make it, and test it.
  • Extra credit: Simulate its operation.
  • Extra credit: Render it.

  • Prof.Neil gave an echo hello world board so I download it from the fab academy week and go for make some changes in it and make a complete PCB of it.
    Redraw the Echo Hello-World Board
There are several softwares available for PCB design Prof. Niel in his lecture provided an exhaustive list of software ranging from free open source project to high end industrial grade one.I selected the EAGLE Software for my task.
    EAGLE
Autodesk EAGLE is an electronic design automation (EDA) software. Enabling printed circuit board (PCB) designers to seamlessly connect schematic diagrams, component placement, PCB routing, and comprehensive library content.EAGLE provides a multi-window graphical user interface and menu system for editing, project management and to customize the interface and design parameters. The system can be controlled via mouse, keyboard hotkeys or by entering specific commands at an embedded command line.

So I started my work on Eagle.
First I did download and install it in my PC.

For the schmatic of the hello world board first I have to add the fab library in the library of eagle so I can use the compents from there.

Now I have to redraw the board and for this I download the given from week#6.

This is the Schmetic of the echo hello world board.

Now i have to add the LED with Button in circuit.

Now I have to place all the components acuratly and make a proper circuit.

Now before go to the further process Check the design rules(DRC).
  • Click on the DRC.
  • DRC screen will be open to you and then click on the clearence.
  • By default the 6mil is set there, we have to check for the 1/64inch drill bit.
  • 15.6mil is equal to 0.015625inch or 1/64inch.
  • Click on check.
  • It will show how approved, warning and errors are there in the design, so we have to made them clear one by one.So our design will be accurate.

  • Now go for the further process. Save the file in the .png format.

Now I have a proper circit design and I can go for the milling process.

Now I have need of rml files of these two files, so i am going to use fabmodules for rml files.

After this we are going for the milling process, for this I am using the Roland SRM-20 machine.

    Maching Process

The next step is soldering, I have the components and I am going to soldering the components.

    Finally the board is ready.

    The Final Board.
