Computer Aided Design

This Week's Assignment

• A possible model of final project, and post it on your class page with original 2D and 3D files.
• Evaluate, try and select 2D and 3D software
• Demonstrate and describe processes used in modelling with 2D and 3D software.

This week we were tasked in designing our project and laying it out in 2D and 3D drawings. To start my final project drawings, I need to design a residential design prototype so that I could design the dynamic façade. I looked several options of 2D and 3D design software and used sketch up for 3D design and Photoshop for 2D design. I wrote basic functions in sketch up that I learned and used and how I designed 2D and 3D model. I attached the files of them as well.

Raster software

GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a free and open-source raster graphics editor used for image retouching and editing, free-form drawing, converting between different image formats, and more specialized tasks.

PHOTOSHOP

I use raster softwares to done the basic edits(cut, crop, resize, enlarge etc) that needed for my webpage. So I installed photoshop on my computer and started it. I want to resize my images to add to my web page.

There is a variety of tools available in the toolbox. For example crop, select, fill, shapes, gradient etc. You can select the one which matches your needs

File – Open (Ctrl + O)
Select image – Open

Now for resizing the image

Fix canvas size to 900 X 650 px. Also fix select how the alignment of the image should in the new canvas.

Vector software

Inkscape is a free and open-source vector graphics editor. This software can be used to create or edit vector graphics such as illustrations, diagrams, line arts, charts, logos and complex paintings. Inkscape's primary vector graphics format is Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG); however, many other formats can be imported and exported.

Inkscape can render primitive vector shapes (e.g. rectangles, ellipses, polygons, arcs, spirals, stars and 3D boxes) and text. These objects may be filled with solid colors, patterns, radial or linear color gradients and their borders may be stroked, both with adjustable transparency. Embedding and optional tracing of raster graphics is also supported, enabling the editor to create vector graphics from photos and other raster sources. Created shapes can be further manipulated with transformations, such as moving, rotating, scaling and skewing.

My aim was to make a vector graphics logo .

Started with a basic rectangular shape.

Draw a rectangle in side the canvas. Then i uploaded external tea cup image and alos little thing writing.

Then i used circle tool to draw a pattern in logo and use fill stroke to colour it.

Used rectangle tool to make a colour change at the top of the logo and also used a connection using rectangle tool betwwen the circle and top rectangle.

Final logo for my little thing store.

RANDOM WORKOUT
3ds Max

Basic interface of 3ds Max

i was randomly trying out some software.3ds max software is somthing which helps to model objects easily.i was just refreshing my old lessons in this software.

simple cylinder converted into a glass using a single comment "convert to editable poly"

i made a single wine glass from a plane.By using the tool extrude we can easily convert the single plane into complicated objects.

extrusion made using extrude comment

By controlling the amount of extrusion we can easily modify the object.

The amount of extrusion can be controlled just by changing the number

Design prototype

I used sketch up pro 2017 for trying out the design protype.

I tried out my dynamic facade on a residential scale project

i was trying to sought out the overall apperance of the project.i didnt work on the mechanical portion.Need to start working on the size, scale and the mechanical movement of the facade.

You can download the project files from here.
