3. Computer Aided design

This week I worked on defining my final project idea and started to getting used to the documentation process.

What is Raster And Vector?

Raster images, are comprised of each pixels of color. Each color pixel contributes to the overall image.

Vector images vector image is composed of paths, which are represented by mathematical functions. These mathematical function represents the actual borders and the different elements in the image. Hence the maximum resolution of the image is not limited by the number of pixels. These mathematical functions can scale easily giving lossless ability to zoom to any extent on the image.

You can erase pixels in a raster image using the eraser tool but, that is not possible in a vector image. In a vector image you can only trim the path according to some constrains.(I got this great explanation from the internet)

RASTER

GIMP I took tutorials on YouTube to learn this software. Installing GIMP and Setting Preference:

GIMP is Free and Simple Open Source Raster Graphic editor used for image retouching and editing ,

  1. Theme setting to system which made the background White.

  2. Icon theme to legacy which made the icons colourfrul.

  3. Setting system resources: to allow the internal memory usage by the software.

4.Image Size: Width to 1920 and Height to 1080. X & Y are also important because while displaying on website we want to compress the image(72 ppi) as far as possible on the other hand during print we want a high resolution(300 ppi). Higher resolution would mean adding more information.

  1. Window Type to single: Setting up window type to Single window. In single Window mode everything is put on 1 window. Makes easier to work on GIMP. Main areas are:

  2. There is acutally Three main windows, Toolbox panel , GIMP Window and Layers/Burshes Panel, in default three panels are seprated , but we can manually dock three panels togther, i choosed docked window.i started to design a simple picture of my project , so first i started to create canvas with size 1020x1024 px in File –> New

i drew a simple picture with the help of pencil tools in gimp

PHOTOSHOP

Photoshop is a raster graphics editor developed and published by Adobe Systems. Its more complex . i tried to draw something :-)
