About Theo

I consider myself a generalist who combines creativity and inventiveness with multi-technological skills. Technology background in mechanical engineering, systems modeling and advanced control and early entrepeneural experience with many ventures in many areas of expertise.

Education

Studied Mechanical Engineering at University of Eindhoven and one thing i remembered was my professor asking me one day why i was even studying mechanical engineering, since my courses were mostly from other departments like physics, electronics and math/control. I realised i was more interested in bridging technology boundaries than becoming an expert in any one of them. As a result i never stopped learning and never settled for any set of skills as definitive.

The Social Enterprise

More recently the “Social Enterprise” has captured my interest with the question: How to develop a nation from within? How to create true wealth in society, agnostic, free and independent! We started the IT-Core community in 2013 as a driver for innovation in ICT, the RoboKidz Lego Robotics school and initiated many supporting activities like the first Hackathon in Suriname and the HackOmation IoT challenge and we participate as hubs for many hackathons like the Fishackathon and recently Hack4Climate.

IoT Lab Suriname

Last year we started building our own IoT Lab for Suriname and hope to join the Fab Community soon! Currently we co-host the FabAcademy with Kazlab French Guyana

First innovation

I experienced and lived through the most amazing period in ICT development starting with card computers and the use-net, the first HTML encoded websites all the way into AI and Robotics. My first venture into software & electronics was a parrallel port controlled single channel PBX to automatically re-route calls via USA telcos using the Call-Back principle leasing it to tropical shops that wanted to offer cheap calls to their customers.

My first board

Fab Academy 2019

After visiting the Fab14 in Toulouse i experienced amazing people with a different way of looking at developing society. This community of creative, selfless “make all people” is amazing and with their mindset everything seems to be possible. I hope to make my contribution to this community by building one of the tools in the chain of self building things

Final Project

My little tool will be a Desktop Electronics Workbench that would take the production of electronic boards a little step further. There are many efforts and offerings already in this spectrum of PCB production so my target is to combine incorporating material and component handling as well as improving positional accuracy at the lowest cost possible. I realized when shopping for these type of machines for our IoT Lab that you have very cheap open loop CNC motion systems with belts and pulleys and very expensive closed loop systems with spindles and linear encoders. I will try to achieve best quality at lowest/reasonable costs (all subject to interpretation ofcourse)
