Thirteenth assignment

Final Project proposal

What will it do?

The main purpose of my project is to create a device that helps people involved in music and dance to keep track or as a tool when maintaining the rhythm.

Who's done what beforehand?

I haven't found many projects similar to what I am doing, but Neil showed Lins' project to me. I found it very inspiring and I could relate from a dancer's point of view. Nevertheless my project goes more to a functional outcome.

While I was doing my research I found a very interesting device called Soundbrenner pulse. I didn't want to check it out as much, at least until I have almost all features defined, as I didn't want it to influence to much in my design (yet).

What will you design?

I will design a digital metronome; the hardware, the internal components and the enclosure; and also user interface.

What materials and components will be used, where will they come from and how much will they cost?

Most are available in the Fab Lab inventory, but I had to obtain the vibration motor from a local supplier. It was very easy to find and very cheap.

What parts and systems will be made?

I will be making almost all of it.

  • The overall body of the metronome, the case.

  • The internal components, electronics.

  • The programming, interface.

What processes will be used?

  • CAD

  • Electronics production (input and output)

  • 3D printing

  • CNC machining

What questions need to be answered?

Will everything needed will fit in a small wearable device?

Is it possible to use a 20MHz resonator for the atmega328p

The programing synchronization is the same as when using a 16 MHz crystal? Time precision is important in this project.

Is it possible and what is needed to power the atmega328p with 3V

What exactly is required to

How will it be evaluated?

This device should be user friendly have an interesting and understandable output. It should be able to function without any external wire or plugs.

With all the described above, this project may seem not so ambitious, but for someone that has no electronic, coding and programming background, this is a major challenge.
