Task required:

Propose a final project masterpiece that integrates the range of units covered, answering different questions.

Questions and answers

      1. What will it do?

A filament Recycler extruder will contain a heater that increase the broken filament temperature allowing it to enter a nozzle with 3mm diameter then there should be a roller attached the extruded filament which is ready for 3d printing process again.

      2. Who's done what beforehand?

I found a few projects of filament recycling extruders. They are mostly similar to my idea but in my machine. My aim is to have a successful recycled filament that can be useful for the community. After that I would like to focus more in studying the filament flow trying to reach the sufficient mechanical properties before recycling.

      3. What will you design?

Mainly, I designed a nozzle extruder one side will allow the screw extruder to enter containing filament and the other side will have a diameter of 3mm allowing the new filament to exit. I also need to design a roller to roll the filament together. In addition, I would like to design a frame covering my machine.

      4. What processes will be used?

2D and 3D designs, Laser cutting, Electronic design and production, Input and output devices and Embedded programming

      5. What materials and components will be used?

Materials: PLA to recycle, wood for the machine frame, Aluminum work piece. Components: Temperature sensor, heater, Screw extruder, DC motor

      6. What parts and systems will be made?

    PCB, nozzle, machine frame

      7. Where will come from?

Most of the stuff are available in fablab except, Screw extruder, heater and temperature sensor were purchased.

      8. How much will they cost?
    1. Stepper Motor: 15$
    2. Thermistor: 14$
    3. Heater: 20$
    4. Nozzle: 90$
    5. Voltage converter: 44$
    6. Power supply: 30$
    7. Screw: 5.5$
    8. Tube: 8$

    Total cost: 226.5$

      9. What questions need to be answered?

Will the machine be able to use the recycled filament with new prints? Will it be useful to the lab and community?

      10. How will it be evaluated?

I would like to make a useful machine that works well and considered as sustainable system converting useless 3D printing to new filament to be use. Which reduce the amount of waste and save money of buying new filaments.
