Group Assignment

- design a machine that includes mechanism+actuation+automation
- build the mechanical parts and operate it manually
- document the group project and your individual contribution


This week, We decided to make a small candy dispenser that contains candy in a jar and when it touches the side panel it should extract one candy bar.
We divided the work between us into the design part and the programming part.

After designing the two-dimensional and three-dimensional shape of the machine, whether it was the external shape or the mechanism of the machine, using AutoCAD Fusion 360, we used Hard Swedish wood with a thickness of 32 mm, but after using the thickener to make it flat, its width became 28 mm to start the production process accurately.

Second, we will do the production process using a CNC machine after saving the 2D design files in DXF format using the V-carve machine program.

We used Roland because it gives a much better finish. Using SRP Player, after saving the 3D design files from AutoCAD Fusion 360, import the STL file into the machine program.

Assembly and Finishing
After designing and manufacturing is completed, we will assemble the outer shell with the inner frame and the electronic parts.
We used glue and nails to fix all the layers together, and washed them together to get them together as one part for a uniform look.


In order to test desks rotation, we provided the motor with a 5v power. Also, we tested the machine by placing gum balls to make sure it was working properly.

We wanted to control the device through two inputs: (limit switch) and (touch sensor).
The limit switch must be pressed (the desk is in a position where one of the holes is in the front).
When the touchpad is touched it should start spinning half a turn to allow the gum to fall into the hole and when it rotates it will fall onto the plate.
To stop the motor in the position where the half-turn is made, we used a limit switch under the desk.
Therefore, it should give a signal when it changes its state from non-pressurized to pressurized (from a position where the hole is not above the plate, to a position where the hole is above the plate to drop the gum.





Problems
1-In the process of feeding gum balls to the machine through the feeding cone, the balls were stuck inside the holes and the motor sometimes stopped,To solve this problem, I used a dremel to increase the diameter of the holes to be larger than the balls and also increased the diameter of the cone itself.

2-Identify switch wires and installation process, the place was a bit small and we forgot to add holes to hide their wires.
3-The engine stops at no small power. This problem caused the engine to stall so we have to add some lubricant to the groove to make the movement much easier, and if there was more time we would have switched the engine to another stronger one.
