19. Invention, intellectual property and income

My Fab Academy project was great timing because I was looking for an engaging project to bring to a few conferenced we booked for our mobile fab lab. The project drew a great bit of interest at the conferences and was featured in several media outlets listed below.

Project License

I chose to you the FAB license for my project. I like how simple it is. I’m not worried about getting credit, but just want any arms of this project to connect back to build a larger nextwork.

The slide below shows the core elements of the project. I will continue to build a network of people in Houston that are interested in building and installing the sensors to increase the number of readings.

SOLIDWORKS Live

The video below was recorded when I took the project to SOLIDWORKS WORLD 2019 as an interactive build to introduce people to what a Fab Lab is. Conference goers could stop by and help build the data visualization robots. We had people from all over the world help and we put together 8 complete bots. Throughout the conference we milled the circuit boards, 3D printed, laser cut, soldered and programmed.

Future Opportunities

I have a few art shows coming up that this project will be featured in. We will continue to bring it to conference and it is also used as an example project at Fab Lab Houston to teach various digital fabrication skills.
