About me

Elena Cardiel

Hi! Welcome to my personal site about my adventures and misadventures at the Fab Academy. I am an architect, but I also consider myself as a designer and maker.

Background

I’m from Segovia, Spain. Segovia is a small but beautiful city declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1985. Our aqueduct, 818 meters long, is considered the most important Roman civil engineering work in Spain, and is one of the most significant and best preserved Roman monuments. If you come to visit us you can also enjoy our Alcazar and our Gothic Cathedral, known as the Lady of the Cathedrals for its size and elegance.

I always wanted to be an architect since I saw my father work in his studio with his drawings and models. That was a very easy decision. I earned my architecture degree from IE University in 2013, graduating as valedictorian. A few months later I started working at the maker space of my university and, suddenly without expecting it I fell in love with the materials, techniques, machines and the maker’s philosophy.
Now a days, five years later, I am the manager of the Fab Lab IE University Segovia. Through these last years our Fab Lab has grown enormously and now we can say that we are full equipped.
