Task

  1. Assignment:Design and produce something with a digital fabrication process (incorporating computer-aided design and manufacturing) not covered in another assignment, documenting the requirements that your assignment meets, and including everything necessary to reproduce it. Possibilities include (but are not limited to) composites, textiles,biotechnology, robotics, folding, and cooking.

This week is intresting and creative in the lecture Neil told the basic requirements for this week's assignment are we have to design something,it should include any machine process,it should not done in any before assignments.So I decided to do something simple and new .So I asked to Miss Harshada Raut (she is instructor at our sewing lab and doing fabric academy this year) for help we descussed and decided to make the comibanation of embroidary work and bioplastic. graeat idea....I get relaxed because she know the recipe for bioplastic and she worked on it.

So we planned we will make one crop top then , I will make embroidary of leaf design on top then I will make bioplastic and then I have to make and laser cut it on bioplastic material .She will guide me for embroidary on embroidary machine and for making the bioplastic so plan is ready for this.

First I will make Bioplastic because it took time to set.

Bioplastic

Bioplastic is compostable material which come from renewable source. It help to reduce the problem of waste and pollution. It has a less oily feel. A bioplastic may have much greater water vapour absorptive than standard plastic. Bioplastic is short lived product. It can be made from vegetable fats and oils, corn starch, agar agar and so many ways.

Process of biomaterial

Ingredients:

First we have to measure all ingredients,as per this chart and as per required quantity

Pre-Preparation:

Place the aluminium foil or plastic sheet on plane surface.

Material Properties:
  • Gelatin:It has gel formation, texturizing, thickening and water binding capacity.
  • Glyserin:Glycerin makes the biolastic more flexible. Water plays an important role in the production of bioplastic.
  • Method/Recipe:
    • 1.Flame on the burner,took a pot, add the water as per reuired quantity and chart.
    • 2. Add gelatine Powder in water then stir continuously and in uniform direction, to remove all the lumps
    • 3.when mixture get hot add the glyserin, keep stirring.
    • 4.Add food colour of our choice ,mix it well
    • 4.Apply the mixture on the plane surface of aluminium foil or plastic,layer it as per our required thickness of bioplastic.
    • 5.Allow it to set for 24 hour,when mixture gets dry remove it from aluminium foil or plastic sheet.

    I tried it for different quantity and different colour ,for colouring the bioplastic I used turmeric(yellow),food colour(green),red(kokam syrup & Kumkum)

    For one sample I didn't add any colour in mixture, and applied it on foil, then spraed the multiple colour over it ,this is one of my favourite sample it look fab...

    When it gets dry I removed it from foil,plastic

    Then i draw simple flower design on corel draw,for cutting it on laser cut.

    And import it in "RD Works"& laser cut it on speed of 90mm/s and power of 25%

    After laser cut I got bioplastic flowers as

    I will stich it on crop top,later.


    Embroidary machine(textile cnc machine)

    Embroidary:

    Embroidery is the craft of decorating fabric or other materials using a needle to apply thread or yarn. We have USHA janome make embroidary machine at textile lab of Vigyan Ashram.it is automatic Computer Embroidery Machine

    For operating this we need jpg image file,for that I draw one more flower design on corel draw,and export it as jpg image.

    now we have to do machine setup software Called as "Digitizer"

    Import jpg image in digitizer

    Then right click on image,select object detail option and set height, width as per your required size I set height 90 and width as 138

    Then in top tool bar menu select "image preparation option select "Auto color reduction".

    Then 'click to parallel weave fill' option on same menu and 'write to external media' here our file downloaded to machine.


  • Now software part is done,before staring the machine we need some machine and cloth settings

  • Cloth setting:

    for this I took one plane cloth ,and ironed it ,then we have canvas paper iron cloth and canvas paper together hence we will get canvas paper sticked to cloth.

    Then fixed it on hoop.

    Machine setting:

    When cloth is ready with hoop, switch on the machine,place the hoop in between two knob of the machine

    add thread to knitting niddle.

    Now machine is all set,gave the print to it.

    After the embroidary,Harshada cut the piece and sewed the crop top it look nice

    Our combination of bioplastic flower and embroidary looks awesome,I liked it.

  • I learnt about the techniques of making bioplastic and cutting it on laser cutter
  • I learnt the textile CNC (Embroidary)machine.
  • I see the combination of the both can looks good.
