About me

Hi, I’m Griffin. I’m an entrepreneur and product designer specializing in rapid prototyping. I’m passionate about finding solutions to unaddressed problems. I build tools that synthesize complex information and help people make stronger, more informed decisions.

I studied behavioral neuroscience and ecology at Bard College, where I received my BA in Biology in 2016. My undergraduate work culminated in the development of a behavioral assessment for larval zebrafish to serve as a high-throughput screening tool for drugs with potential anxiety-reducing properties in humans. While I intended to validate these results using three-dimensional microscopy techniques, research into methods of visualizing this three-dimensional imaging data revealed that the methods currently available to scientists are significantly lacking. After graduation, I co-founded a company and taught myself digital manufacturing techniques with the intention to create systems to make visualizing complex, three-dimensional imaging data and animations more intuitive.

I joined the Cambridge Hackspace to further these skills, and now serve as the Treasurer and a board member in order to advance the mission of the organization. During the pandemic, I’ve been hosting I’ve also co-founded a second company, Traintrackr, where I continue to develop my design, manufacturing, and business skills.

I’m excited to use the Fab Academy as an opportunity to develop a more well-rounded skill set, and further my ability to shape the world around me. My entrepreneurial and independent projects generally focus on 3D modeling and digital fabrication, but as I take on more ambitious, interdisciplinary projects, the gaps in my knowledge regarding electronic engineering, programming, and web development, impose limitations on the development of these projects. I would also like to use this opportunity to build on my knowledge of 3D modeling and digital fabrication to push the boundaries of what I am capable of. In particular, I would like to focus on leveraging the guidance of the team at Dassault Systemes to gain expertise in Solidworks, a tool which I have little previous experience with. This experience would not only advance my career, but in my ability to lead and educate at the maker space in the future.

Some other projects I’ve been working on include Accipiter Aerospace, which focuses on incorporating modular, 3D-printed components into high-powered rockets.

During the COVID-19 personal protective equipment (PPE) shortage, I also worked with the Mass General Brigham COVID Innovation Group to develop an alternative N95 respirator using rapid prototyping equipment.
