5. 3D Scanning and printing

Such an intresting week , Hoped it lasted longer .

First a really helpful Group Assignment

Where we understood design rules of 3D printing and fabrication limitaions .

3D Printing

Design

Worked on Fusion 360 to create a model , Tried some designs which I hated .

Later had an inspiration and went for it

Printing

Sliced on Cura to be printed on Prusa MK2

A lot of settings , but most of them are set in suitable condition as I use Prusa ready profiles found Here

In Shell tab , You might wanna increase the “Wall line count” to make your part stronger .

Also “Top/Bottom Pattern” Helps you give your parts a nicer look at the end .

This option helps you prevent elephant foot effect in your part , First adjust Z live then test some parts till you find the sweet number for your printer .

Also increase Infill for stronger parts , noticing it will take more time and material .

Here Adjust temperatures and also through testing you might start editing some flow settings based on your experementation .

Retraction is a great factor to prevent stringing , I wasn’t sure about Wood filament so I set as I do for PLA .

Finally , No support was needed and just Skirt in fixing part to printing bed.

Save file on the SD card and to the machine ,

Very easy to use , you just press and spin the knob

Preheat >> PLA

Unload filament , to remove previous filament

Load filament , Insert Wood filament

Is filament clear >> Yes , in case you see no traces of previous filament

Print from SD >> file name

Simple as that .

And that’s how it came out

Still need to remove the stringing

Love how it came out and the wood effect

Maybe I will give the wood filament another go while adjusting the retraction settings better .

I think I will increase the retraction distance which is the amount of filament pulled back when nozzle moves from one part to another .

Retraction speeds are of the pulled back and forth filament .

Also I think I might edit the temperature , It might help with the strings .

Family Candle download Here

3D Scanning

Very amusing task .

First I downloaded the software Qlone

Openned the application , very easy interface

Got the scanning mat and placed my part on it .

A dome appeared to show which sides have been scanned .

I kept scanning till almost all parts was covered and it starting analysing my scan .

It’s ready ! and I get to choose which extension I need it as .

They even generate a GIF of my scan !!
