About me

Hi, my name is Almir Kimura Junior. I am Brazilian born in São Paulo but raised in Manaus Amazon. I am a Nerd/Geek, a big fan of the Star Wars Franchise, love games, and Japanese animation.

Through the FabAcademy, I am looking to help the Amazon Fablab community and develop new skills to improve the University prototyping lab. Maybe in the future start the university Fablab, who knows. :)

My background

Graduated and Master in Electric Engineering (Control and automation), finished in 2020 my PhD in Management in USP (Universidade de São Paulo) about the theme “Innovation Determinants: An study of Firms from Manaus Industrial Pole/Amazon”. Professor in the University of Amazon State in the Department of Control and Automation. I teach subjects like Automation and Control, Digital Image Processing, Project Management, and Entrepreneurship. Also, I participate in R&D and innovation projects in companies of the Manaus Industrial Pole. Currently, I am the responsible professor of the Prototyping Lab from OCEAN Manaus.

OCEAN

Ocean is a free technological training center, equipped with modern infrastructure, focused on training, courses events and pratical activities open to differents audiences, among them students, entrepreneurs, developers and people in general.

Conceived by Samsung, the Samsung Ocean training and capacity building center arrived in Brazil in 2014, establishing two units, located in the cities of São Paulo (SP) and Manaus (AM). Brazil is the only country outside of South Korea, headquarters of Samsung, to receive this project. In Manaus, where I am, the initiative is a partnership between Samsung and the Amazonas State University (UEA) and the center was inaugurated on June 24, 2014.

OCEAN Prototyping LAB

In 2020 I was assigned to lead the prototyping lab at Ocean Manaus. Our laboratory is located inside the UEA-EST (University of the State of Amazonas School of Technology) and is equipped with modern machines with which we work on several projects aiming at improvements for our community and also to support startups that are assisted by the Ocean Manaus project.

Is is a small lab but we have a few nice equipaments as:

  • Desktop ShopBot

  • Epilog Laser Helix

  • MonoFab SRM-20

  • 2x Sindoh 3D WOX.

We hope to learn more about Digital Fabrication and improve the lab structure and knowledge
