Final Project Development

Week 18

Assignments

  • Complete your final project, tracking your progress

What tasks have been completed, and what tasks remain?

The intitial research on geometric and kinematics hase been done.
The order for rod end bearings has been arrived and the aluminum rod has been bought from the local shop.
The 3D design in Fusion for the body part has been developing by printing and laser cutting to test.
The type of microcontroller and stepper motors has been defined.

❌ It seems geometric of the body needs modification, so new design sould be created for the motor's shaft connector (upper arm).
❌ The first draft of the schematics design in KiCad has been made but needs corrections.
❌ Electronics production (milling and soldering) has been left.
❌ Embedded programming has been remained. I should figure out about the right library in Arduino and the right angle of the arms.
❌ Assembling the body part has been left.

What's working? what's not?

After assembling the ready parts, mechanical design looks good, except some minor corrections.
❌ It seems 3D needs corrections considering geometrical symmetry
❌ I have designed and made lower arms with laser cut, but it did not perfectly worked with the rod end bearings. So, I will replace them with the threaded aluminum rod.

What questions need to be resolved?

  • The angle of the upper arms for home positioning
  • The required library for coding

What will happen when?

  • After modification of the body parts, assembling can be completed and mechanical design can be tested.
  • I should prepare the pcb board as soon as possible to test the motors functions.
  • I should start coding in Arduino and testing on arm movements for initial test.

what have you learned?

Oh, I cannot list all of them, but A LOT! What I liked the most in my Fab Academy journey was to see how a new week lesson started to be more clear and embedded during the next week assignment. Since I had no background in designing and electronics, almost every unit was totally new for me and challenging. But even during my final project, I learned many new things about each units. For example, I got familiar with a couple of new features in Fusion 360 while designing the body parts of the deltabot. Also, I learned many new tips during drawing schematic for my main board in addition to learning new commands in Arduino when trying to program the board. In Fusion, I learned many new features. In other word, working on my final project completely developed my understaning and skills for each of the units.
