Smart Coffee Table

*this photo of mine has been taken by the Instructor Wendy

The first skitch of the coffee table you will find it in Week 8

What will it do?

Smart coffee table is a design to support your relaxation needs which has distance sensors and LED lights. So, basically, the sensor will work as a distance detector for the cup or mug movement which will be the “input part” or the action of the project. The LED is the “output part” the interaction of the sensor.

The table will give your coffee time more valuable and interesting by the interaction between your Mug and the colours and mood. This idea is not new, but it helps to change the coffee lovers time to the best by glowing every time they place the mug on the table.

Briefly, place your mug on the table, the lights will glow and vise versa.

Who has done what beforehand?

In week Week 4 I did little research looking for a table design to do on that week's assignment, so a colleague in in our lab Carl suggested me this link Rob Hemsley's table, So I liked the design of Rob's table and from his I got the inspire to improve mine. Also, there are so many wibsites which I inspired from there ideas of including LEDs, colors and sensors such as kickstarter projects and tablelegsonline.

I love creating things with wood and I always wanted to make own piece of furniture.( Basheer ) is previous Fab Academy student who also likes the woodworks and creating creative things using wood. He has a very nice project which is creating his own piece of furniture which has a mixture of raw material and composites for a modern, simple look yet with hidden practical features.

The beauty is always in the simplicity as they say! My Idea is simple, clear and looks also normal, BUT it has sweet pleasuring feature hidden which people cannot see what it has unless the try the table

What materials and components will be required? Where will they come from? How much will it cost?

BOM "Bill of materials" I used for final project.

What parts and systems will be made?

What processes will be used?

What tasks need to be completed?

What questions need to be answered?

What is the schedule?

How will it be evaluated?

My minimum project requirement is the LED with glow when there is any object on the table and then when you take that object off the table the LED lights goes off.
