I am building a dust particle sensor for my wood workshop

I am currently managing and working in the Project Lab (carpentry workshop).

Being a registered Workplace Safety and Health Officer, I am curious to find out the dust particle concentration in the air in the workshop.

Reasons / Application :
1) The dust sensor helps in sensing the air quality of the Project Lab. Students activities in the Project Lab tend to generate a fair amount of dust. Singapore sometimes experience haze which are generated from the neighbouring countries when the local use the 'slash and burn' method to clear the forested area for agriculture purpose.
2) Being totally new to electronics, I would like to start on something of a smaller scale which could be easily accomplished in the next 5 months.
2) The other consideration factor influencing my final project choice includes keeping the project cost to not exceeding USD $200.

Therefore building a dust particle sensor for my Project Lab is found to be a suitable choice for my final project for the Fab Academy course.

In the future, the knowledge gained from doing my final project and the prototype that I build, can be expanded to become a smart monitoring device (IoT devices) which can provide logging capability and notification alert to my email/mobile phone.
