The main objective for this week is to propsoe a final project and answer all the related queries of the project.

I am planing to make a water based music visualizer which makes water vibrate in certian pattern based on the music played.

What will it do?

The main purpose of the device is to give a mesmerizing optical illusion to the person viewing it. Movement of fluid is always amazing to watch . But whwn it does gravity defying illusions its even more mesmerizing. The main goal here is to fluctaute water flow according to the beats of music.

So first spiral would be to make a device which can fluctuate water using speaker at the same time pulsating the RGB LEDs to give a mesmerizing effect.

Who's done what beforehand?

Several people have tried before hand in which most of it is droplet illusion and one project named aqurious which is extremly staisfying to watch but they are not tuned to move with music.

What will you design?

I want to make a reformation in the existing models by making it move with the beats of music. But even the reproduction is difficult since i am using speaker to produce frequency.

What materials and components will be used?

The components required are

  • The magnet to produce frequency
  • A sound amplifier circuit
  • RGB LED components
  • DC water pump
  • Electroncis board for controlling water flow and led flickering
  • THe materials required are

  • Acrylic 3 mm for the body
  • PLA filament for 3d printing the water collector
  • Vinyl sticker for the design
  • Where will they come from?

Most of the components and materials is provided by fablab inventory and some components can be salvaged from old speakers. THe body can be partialy assembled using press pit and by gluing.

And few materials should be purchased from outside.

    How much will they cost?

One of my plans was to reduce the cost for the total build, so I would salvage what I can and fabricate what I can't. Most of the material can be taken from the inventory and only some material is required to be bought from outside.Overall for wxternal purchase it would be leass than 15 dollar.

    Bill of materials

    Speaker magnet 1 salvaged
    water pump 1 $ 2
    sound Amplifier 1 Salvaged
    Flexible water hose 5mm 1 m .2 $
Acrylic 3 mm 3 sheets Inventory
    PLA filament Few meters Inventory
6x4" single sided copper board 1 inventory
    N chanel mosfet 30 A 4 Inventory
RGB lED strip 2 meter Inventory
    Volatage regulator 4 Inventory
    Resistor Inventory
    Switch 1 Inventory
    20 Hz crystal 1 Inventory
    Terminal block 4 Inventory

What parts and systems will be made?

  • Electronics board will be made using PCB miliing
  • The body will be made using acrylic
  • Water collector using 3d printer
  • The stickers will be made using vinyl
  • water tank should be made
  • The amplifier holder
  • Almost all parts are made in fablab and additionaly required pump and other things are bought
  • What processes will be used?

  • Electronics boards: Designed using EAGLE, they will be made using the Roland Modela Desktop CNC milling machine, controlled through the fab modules.
  • Stickers: Designed in Inkscape, they will be made using Roland Desktop Vinyl cutting machine controlled via fab modules.
  • The Body: Designed in Fusion360, exported as DXF, will be will be made with acrylic using Trotec laser cutter.
  • The water collector: Designed in fusion360, exported as STL file, Sliced in Cura and 3D printed in Ultimaker 2.
  • What questions need to be answered?

  • How to design the complete product?
  • How to control water spillage?
  • How to integrate the complete process in atmega328p?
  • How to synchronize the led with water?
  • which wave to use or should i use all the waves?
  • how to synchronize music with water or is it too much for now?
  • How to program the board to synchrnize all the processes?
  • How to gnerate frequency?
  • which input device to use?
  • Will i get the desired outcome
  • How will it be evaluated?

Since this is my first project which involves complicated processes i am not sure how far i can achieve my desired outcome. But i am confident that this project is possible. There are many things i need to master before like programing, board designing, 3d designing.

So for my minimum outcome i consider a visualizer which can produce effects with water, and in the best case scenario a music visualizer with speaker which fluctuates water with the music played.
